Birthday Party Cake Smash Photos on Location in Essex
Possibly the only thing more special than celebrating your baby's first year, is celebrating one of a rainbow baby. I have been so honoured to be there for the whole of Raine's journey with her mum, through a worrying pregnancy, to being one of the first people lucky enough to meet her at her Newborn photoshoot in my Hertford studio, all the way to her first birthday.
Raine's first birthday was meticulously planned, from the beautiful matching pastel coloured rainbows, balloons, cake and decor, to the entertainment - all topped off by an amazing gathering of family and friends.
The biggest difference for me as a photographer, was that I was documenting a cake smash on location in Matching Tye Village Hall, all set up by the parents, rather than in my photography studio in Hertford. It was such a beautiful set up, all with so much meaning to mum, and the effort she had put in to creating a stage for some timeless photos that will be cherished for an entire lifetime was evident.
Raine has allergies, so the cake was made up of two tiers, one made using standard sponge cake ingredients and the other lactose free for the cake smash. Mum really thought of everything for the party and photos... I will have to take notes next time I organise a party for my children.
Raine's big brother didn't want to be in the photos - there was far too much fun to be had with the soft play and piñata, but we did manage to grab him for a quick family portrait.
The food spread was beautiful and delicious... I quickly took a few photos when I realised people were helping themselves before it all got eaten up. The pick and mix station was a huge hit with the kids (and adults alike).
I can't wait to watch Raine grow up and have the family back for more birthdays and annual family portraits as their children grow. Thank you for trusting me to document such an important occasion in your lives.
As we all have camera phones these days, you may be tempted to take your own birthday party photos, although, all too often it's easy to get distracted and miss the key opportunities. Something else you may have considered is taking your own Newborn photos. While I would never recommend trying to copy the poses a professional photographer has trained for, using window light for natural shots at home can be very effective.
