We always save egg boxes and toilet rolls. My boys, especially the youngest, love nothing more than crafting, and I love recycling or re-using anything and everything, so it's a match made in crafting heaven (saving the environment and my pocket one egg-box at a time).
Most of the time, they just stick various bits of cardboard and coloured paper together to make rockets, towers, and robots, but as it's halloween, I thought we could have a slightly more focussed crafting activity this October half-term.
What you will need?
Depending on which scary figures you want to make, will determine which paints you need. If you know about the colour wheel, you can make any colours you need with red, blue and yellow (however for Frankensteins mauve body, I prefer to mix pink and blue as red and blue tends to make a darker purple. If you don't have pink, just add little red to white paint). For the bats and ghosts you will want white and black paint, but lighter egg boxes could be used as they are for the ghosts and felt tip pens could be used for black bats. If you don't have googly eyes, felt tip pens (we used sharpies) or paint could be used.
Adults may want to help with cutting the egg boxes. I found they were a little awkward to cut through and I spent an hour the night before preparing. In the morning the boys painted everything, then in the afternoon we came back to stick all the pieces together and decorate.
So... now you have everything you need. follow my easy step by step instructions and keep your kids entertained for hours.
